Qatar's sole transport solutions provider, Doha Mowasalat is en route to franchising. The company has given rights for additional cab services to three firms namely Al Million, Al Ijarah and Petro Qatar. These firms will have the right to operate for five years. Each franchisee will run about 500 new taxis for which roll out will be done in phased manner. The Al Million’s taxis are expected to be on roads by next month. Al Ijarah, the other franchise, is scheduled to launch its vehicles on July 1, 2012. Finally, Petro Qatar is slated to launch a third batch of 500 vehicles on January 1, 2013. Each vehicle will bear logos of Karwa along with the logo of respective franchisee.
Under the terms of the agreement with Mowasalat, the franchisees will be able to operate their services everywhere, except the arrival terminal at the Doha International Airport. In this way, Mowasalat has initiated limited privatisation and may issue IPO in 2013.
